An animal sanctuary is a facility where animals are brought to live and be protected for the rest of their lives. Unlike animal shelters, sanctuaries do not seek to place animals with individuals, or groups, instead maintaining each animal until his or her natural death. The mission of sanctuaries is generally to be safe havens, where the animals receive the best care that the sanctuaries can provide. Animals are not bought, sold, or traded, nor are they used for animal testing. The resident animals are given the opportunity to behave as natural as possible in a protective environment.
What distinguishes a sanctuary from other institutions is the philosophy that the residents come first. In a sanctuary, every action is scrutinized for any trace of human benefit at the expense of non-human residents. Sanctuaries act on behalf of the animals, and the caregivers work under the notion that all animals in the sanctuary, human and non-human, are of equal importance.
A sanctuary is not open to the public in the sense of a zoo; that is, the public is not allowed unescorted access to any part of the facility. A sanctuary tries not to allow any activity that would place the animals in an unduly stressful situation.
Most of the animals we took in were strays in urgent need of help. Without immediate intervention these animals would have died or suffered immensely. When rescued, animals usually are suffering from malnutrition (also with Plica), blood parasites, tick infestation, Distemper, Parvo, trauma, severely infected wounds, rotten extremities and pregnancy.
All our rescued animals at One World Sanctuary can be sponsored, ensuring their on-going security and safety. Simply head to our 'Dogs' or 'Cats' tabs on our website, read their stories and choose one of our unsponsored rescued animals to personally support.
Please know that sponsorship does not mean adoption, as all our sponsored animals will remain forever within the One World Sanctuary grounds. Sponsorship however gives you the chance to have an incredibly positive impact on the life of one our furry friends, starting today!
To sponsor one of our gorgeous rescue dogs is 30 Euro's per month or to sponsor one of our playful cats is just 15 Euro's per month.
When you sponsor an animal, you'll be helping give them all the love, food and medical attention they need as well as receiving twice a year a few photos of your sponsored animal, so you can see their progress, watching them flourish with the love and care they need. With your permission, we will also add your name under the animal's profile on our website.
You are also more than welcome to visit your sponsored animal if you are ever in Thailand. We are a small sanctuary and not a huge shelter with 'open doors', so for that reasonwe limit the time and amount of visits per year, per animal. Each sponsored animal can be visited twice per year with a maximum of one hour per visit.
